Born in 1845 in Tennessee to John and Catherine Sherfey Sliger, Sarah came with her family to Illinois before 1857. There she met and married David Kinkade at the close of the civil war. Their marriage entry in their family bible showed that witnesses were James Sliger and Eliza Kinkade. They came to Ellensburg by covered wagon from California in 1882, settling on a farm four miles east of Ellensburg, and were among the settlers and builders of the Kittitas Valley.
In the 1896 school census for Kittitas County, her daughter May was attending school and Sarah's nickname is listed as being "Lizzie". She is also listed as Lizzie on her daughter's marriage record with the county. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Women's Relief Corps, and had filled most of the offices in that order. By 1923, she and her husband were spending their winters in California with their daughter Minnie Wright and her husband.
Friends and acquaintenances feted Mrs. Kinkade on her 91st birthday, just three months before her death. Her obituary appeared on the front page under the heading of Mrs. D. Kinkade, Valley Pioneer. She was mentioned as being the oldest and most widely known and loved of Kittitas county pioneers. Her death ended a residence of 54 years duration in the Valley. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. C. Wright. She is buried at IOOF Cemetery next to her husband.

I, Sarah E. Kinkade of the City of Ellensburg, County of Kittitas and State of Washington, do make and declare this my last will and estament in manner and form following to wit.
1st - It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid.
2nd - After the payment of such funeral expenses and debts I give and bequeath unto my beloved children J. W. Kinkade, R. M. Kinkade, Norah E. Cowger, Minnie B. Wright and Annie M. Bailes, the sum of one dollar each.
3rd - I give, devise, and bequeath unto my beloved husband David Kinkade, in the case of him being alive at the time of my death, all the remaining property both real and personal belonging to me at my death, to have and hold as his own.
4th - That in the event that my said husband David Kinkade should not be living at the time of my death then and in that case I, give, devise and bequeath unto my said children J. W. Kinkade, R. M. Kinkade, Norah E. Cowger, Minnie B. Wright and Annie M. Bails, all of my property both real and personal which I own and possess at the time of my death, each of said chidren to share alike in the ownership and devission of said property.
5th - And lastly I hereby constitute and appoint J. W. Kinkade and W. C. Wright executors of this my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and ratifying and conferming this and no other to be my last will and testament written entirely upon these two pages,
