Funeral service for William Byrd Hooten, age 87, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Reverend Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery with Jason Brumfield, Bryan Shultz, Chris Carpenter, Major Willis, Dustin Brumfield and David Jacobs serving as pallbearers. Harlan Patterson, Nolan Hill and Clifford Hill serving as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mr. Hooten passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehabilitation. He was born on June 17, 1929, in Hopkins County, Texas, the son of Earl and Leota (Dickey) Hooten. He was a member of the North Liberty Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Carpenter, Janie McCauley and husband Danny, Millie Shultz, Libby Jacobs and husband Bryan of California; sister Pauline Green; and brother, Charles Shropshire of Sulphur Springs. 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Arthur Hooten, sister Mattie Lee Hill, and granddaughter Courtney Shultz.
