Ben R. Price, 63, builder of the first telephone system in Throckmorton and Stamford, and resident of Albany for 43 years, died at his home here this morning. Death resulted from an infection caused by a splinter which was stuck into his left arm last Tuesday. His condition became critical Thursday night.
Funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Matthews Memorial Presbyterian church, with Rev. J.A. Owens, officiating.
Ben Price was born May 8, 1868, in Stoneville, NC, and moved to Texas in 1888, settling at Dublin. A year later he moved to Albany, where he was married, March 29, 1890, to Miss Elizabeth Royle, who had come here with her parents from Manchester, England. surviving: wife; 3 children - Mrs. C.B. Newby, Mrs. N.S. Holland of Breckenridge; Ben R. Price, Jr. of Baytown.
Mr. Price was a pioneer West Texas telephone system building, having constructed Stamford’s first system in 1900. Five years later he built the Throckmorton system, which he owned and operated for several years. Later he engaged in the hardware business and recently in plumbing and building. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
