"Uncle" Isaac A. Sloan, one of the aged pioneers of east Miller County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Johnny Thompson, in the Alder Springs neighborhood, on Monday of this week, at the age of over 94 years.

He was a highly honored citizen and during his life performed valuable service for the good of his community. For the past few years he had grown very feeble and at various times remarked that he was anxious and ready to pass on to his reward.

The funeral discourse was preached by Rev. Virgil Smith of Brumley at the Union Church near Brays, Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial was in the cemetery at that place with the American Legion Post of Iberia in charge.

Isaac Alexander Sloan, son of Thomas S. and Margaret C. Sloan(deceased), was born in Butler County, Kentucky April 25, 1840, and died July 9, 1934, being at the time of his death 94 years, 2 months and 14 days old.

He was united in marriage November 4, 1860, to Sarah J. Jones (who preceded him in death 5 years ago) and to this union was born 10 children of whom all are living, except one son, J.H. Sloan, who passed away March 23 of this year, and one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Tyler, who passed away about 40 years ago. Those living are W.T. Sloan, age 70 of Springfield, Mo.; J.M. Sloan, age 68, of Arlington, Mo.; R.M. Sloan, age 64, of near Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. Rosa Thompson, age 60 of Dixon R. 4; C.M. Sloan, age 54 of Hancock R. 1; H.B. Sloan, age 50 of Hancock, R1; and O.E. Sloan, age 48 of Dixon, Mo.

He united with the Christian Church at about the age of 20 years and began his work as a minister at the age of 50 years, and remained in the service of his Lord for about 35 years.

He leaves to mourn his passing besides his children, 35 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends.

He served the Capt. Parham's Company, Maries County, Enrolled State Militia, for about 2 years during the Civil War. He was a man honored and respected by all.
