George Barton Slone, a well known pioneer citizen of Miller County, died Thursday night at ten o clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Atwell, one mile north of Hancock. He had been in failing health for some time and was 79 years old at the time of his death. He was born in Kentucky October 5, 1852. He came to Missouri with his parents in 1859, being seven years old then. In 1877 he was united in marriage to Sarah V. Null. To this union six children were born. Four of them survive—nameley; Albert Slone of Dixon, Mrs. Charley Atwell of Hancock, Ogle Slone of Springfield and Oral Slone of Dixon. His wife passed away in 1905. For 17 years he was a merchant at Cross Roads, four miles north of Hancock. He was a member of the Christian Church for 50 years.
After a short service conducted by Miles Bowden he was laid to rest in the Tyler Cemetery by the side of his wife, the song service was conducted by Leslie Lee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ol Lee. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Ogle Slone and family of Springfield, Mrs. Archie Boyce and son of Kansas City, and Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Slone and son Archie of Arlington.
