The Goffs Advance of last week relates the death of James Barnes, which occurred June 20. Mr. Barnes was born in Miegs Co., Ohio March 10, 1841. On August 18th, 1865 he was married to Ellen E. Walters, to this union were born seven children, five of whom survive him. They are Joseph Barnes, Annie Jinks, Philip Barnes, Alfred Barnes and James Barnes,jr. Nellie and Huldah having preceded their father. The wife and mother died December 20, 1894. In the fall of 1858 he came to Kansas City, crossed the river in a ferry boat to the place where Wyandotte now stands. From the latter place he walked to Leavenworth; from there to Atchison and thence to the farm five miles northeast of Goff, upon which he resided until 1891. His mother and father with the rest of the family came to Nemaha county in the spring of 1859.
