Mr. Wilson was born in Wilkes County on September 25, 1925, son of the late Claude Dewey Wilson and Sallie Mae Johnson Wilson. He and his brother, Hank, were operators of Wilson Brothers Service Station and a member of Mallorysville Baptist Church. “Chunk” served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Surviving are his children: Wanda Youchim of Tignall, Peggy & Randy Smith of Elberton, and Chet Wilson of Washington; siblings: Margaret Lee Peterman of Lexington and Gene and Bobbie Jo Wilson of Tignall; sister-in-law, Dell James of Washington; grandchildren: Jake Smith, Justin Wilson, and Jared Wilson; great-grandchildren: Hunter Safrit, Ivy Safrit, Lance Corporal Wyatt Safrit, Tucker Smith, and Max Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Audrey Thornton; and siblings: R.C. Wilson, John Henry Wilson, Clarence Wilson, Eula Mae Jones, Grady Wilson, and Sara Caldwell.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, January 9, at 3 o’clock in Mallorysville Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Wilson will lie instate for one hour prior to the service.
The family is at the residence of Peggy & Randy Smith, Elberton, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 3:00-5:00p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
