Mary Jane was the youngest daughter of Franklin August Barrick & Ada Hiller Barrick. Siblings include: John "Jack" Barrick, William "Fred" Barrick, Franklin "Buddy" Barrick (infant), Frances Margaret (Barrick) Withers Meyers and Helen (Barrick) Hayes. She grew up in Ogden, IL. Her mother was ill most of Mary Jane's life, I don't know what the illness was, but Ada's mother raised Mary Jane. The family story was told, that "Mary Jane needed to be able to care for herself, so Grandma paid for and sent her to Beauty School to learn a trade." As a young adult, met and married Roy Eller. Roy & Mary Jane lived in Danville, IL where Mary Jane owned a successful Beauty Shop for many, many years. Roy was a handsome man and Mary Jane loved him so. He broke her heart with other women throughout their marriage, but she always loved him and stayed by his side. Later in their marriage, Roy developed lung disease. During Roy's stay at a medical facility, where he remained until death, they had discussed with his physician, the possibility of financial devastation caused by his care. The physician strongly advised them to divorce so Mary Jane would not loose everything they'd worked for, so they did. Roy soon passed away. Mary Jane closed the Beauty Shop and moved to South Carolina where she started her life over again. At 92, Mary Jane & her miniature white poodle, "Angel" moved to Lynchburg, VA with her niece, Barbara (my mom) and her husband Richard Stump. Mary Jane & Angel soon moved to an apartment and approx. 1 year later, they took a trip to see her niece Cindy Hayes Dwyer (Helen Barrick Hayes daughter). Mary Jane stayed there for about a year and returned to Lynchburg, VA, living on her own. During her last 6 months, she gradually became unable to care for herself totally, so I stepped up to the plate and assisted her with ADLs and care up to and through her death. Mary Jane loved God, reading her Bible and watching preaching on TV, Roy, family, a good laugh, her dog Angel, and me. A picture of Roy was on her coffee table until her death.
