Judy Dunbar entered the garden of the sky February 29, 2016. Judy was born in Thorntown Indiana, February 7, 1938 to John W. Dunbar, pioneer of the automobile in Indiana, and Josephine A. Clouser. She was raised at Dunbar Park and her playmates were Frances and Bobby Duesenberg. Later Judy and her sisters grew up at a Catholic orphanage in Indiana.

Following high school graduation, Judy was employed in the accounting office of Witham Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana. On arrival to Reno, Nevada in 1962, Judy took a housekeeping job for Tommy and Patsy Creek where she frequently babysat the Carano boys.

Her employment included cocktail waitressing for John and Bob Lazovich (Bodie Mike's sons) at the Red Fox Inn; making pies at Chez Maximes French restaurant; waitressing at Louis Basque Corner; and five years with Glaser Brothers for Lou Vasconcellos. Several years found Judy working in the auto field for Wilson Auto Sales, Ed Evans Automotive, and Central Motors. Finally Judy had her housekeeping and cleaning business combined with her house and dog sitting, all the time maintaining several vegetable gardens. Gardening was a favorite past time and Judy won many blue ribbons at the Nevada State Fair along with a best of show.

Judy also enjoyed fishing, camping and vacationing with her family at Frenchman and Bucks Lake. Up at the crack of dawn, Judy, Scott and Reggie fished at the Tracy Power Plant. She enjoyed picking berries with her family in Washington, California and baking blackberry pies for her niece's birthdays and other family members. We all remember how she made jelly, pickles and canned veggies sharing with all. She treated us all to the best home made chicken and noodles.

Judy had many gardens all over town, including a large one in her back yard. Many friends and family members were the recipients of her bountiful crops. Judy had an incrediable spirit. She was like a butterfly with a tiger tail.

Judy's life was entwined with the Admirands, Capurros, Avansinos, Quilici, Martuccis, Gallagher, Gilbs, Bantzs and so many others families in our community.

Judy was survived by her sisters Regina Dunbar, Mary Jo Barton, son Richard Cordova (Sandra), granddaughters, Kathryn and Caroline, niece and nephew Jeanne and Scott Barton, great niece Morgan Barton and her two, still growing gardens of onions and garlic, as a testimony to her gardening skills. She was preceded in death by little dog Sneakers, who went to work with her every day.

A family friend of 50 years, Reverend George Snelling, conducted a private celebration of life April 27 at St. Therese Little Flower Church where 71 of her friends and neighbors, including seven family members, were in attendance.

In Judy's memory a plea to your governor or congressman to support prevention of elder abuse would be appropriate.

Judy, I love and miss you everyday. You kept asking Jeanne, "Now, I'm coming to live with you, right?" We were trying to make this happen by petitioning for guardianship. God had other plans. [Mary Barton, Reno, NV (May 2, 2016)]
