Alfred "Gene" Schmidt, 75, of St. Louis, a former St. Charles County resident, died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at his residence.

Mr. Schmidt was a retired civil engineer for Sverdrup Corp. in St. Louis where he had worked for 36 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Monica Catholic Church, 12136 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis. Cremation will follow the service.

Among the survivors are three daughters, Julie Toland of Crystal City, Erica Underwood of St. Charles and Elaine Schmidt of St. Louis; a son, A.E. Schmidt Jr. of Starkeville, Miss.; three sisters, Dorothy Tomsu of Austin, Texas, Fran McCormick of Raymondville, Texas, and Eleanor Hollas of Cameron, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or Masses in care of the Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Mo. 63301.
