Wanda Ray Allison was born in Houston, Texas on February 8th in 1944 to Althea Glover and Raymond English.

She was their first child and the elder sister of two younger brothers, Garry English and Garvin English.

She graduated from Yates High School and went on to study nursing at Texas Women's University where she attended college for two years, eventually leaving and working as a secretary for several different doctors.

At the age of 23, Wanda met her future husband, Robert Allison at a supper club for young professionals in downtown Houston.

A year later, they married and had their first child, Stephen.

Soon after, she and Robert moved to Hagerstown, MD where their daughter Kathleen was born.

After four years, the family moved back to Houston to stay.

After many years spent taking care of her home and children, Wanda began working outside the home once again.

Her favorite position was that of secretary to George Shackelford (Curator of European Painting and Sculpture) and Alison Greene, (Curator of Contemporary Art and Special Projects) at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Wanda had a refined aesthetic and enjoyed being surrounded by Houston's art world during that time.

Wanda loved interior decorating, travel, and dining out.

She also very much enjoyed reading, film, music, and walks through nature.

Although she was an introvert and definitely enjoyed alone time, she was a friendly person and an excellent conversationalist.

She is proceeded in death by both parents as well as her husband of over forty years, Robert Noble Allison whom she lovingly helped care for in his final illness.

Also preceding her in death is her brother, Garry Olin English as well as her son-in-law, Darren Henry Goforth.

In addition to her two children, she is survived by her youngest brother, Garvin English.

She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Ava Goforth, Emma Allison, Eleanor Allison, and Ryan Goforth as well as a loving daughter-in-law, Heather Hope Allison. Wanda loved her family and was an affectionate mother and grandmother.

She was loved and will be missed.

The family would like to thank Monique Lee and Nikki Baptiste for their patience, caring, and love that they generously and tirelessly extended to Wanda in her final months.

Thank you. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00-2:00 at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4th, 2016 with services commencing at 2:00 p.m.

The reception is scheduled immediately after at The Derrick Tavern on Eldridge.
