Betty Jean married George A. Moore February 23, 1952 in Chillicothe, Missouri. She was a 1947 graduate of Chillicothe High School and completed her undergraduate degree with a BS in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. While teaching elementary PE, marrying and raising three small children, Betty earned her Masters Degree in Administration, Supervision, and Guidance from Florida Atlantic University in 1966. She returned to Missouri in 1971 to become the Principal/School Superintendent of the Chula School District and retired 22 years later to enjoy spending time with her grandchildren, working on her farm, and designing a very productive raised-bed town garden at her home in Brookfield.

She was member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Missouri State Teachers' Association, Missouri Retired Teachers' Assoc. in Brookfield. She was also a member of the Mizzou Alumni Assoc. and a life-long Tigers sports fan. She had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star-Florence Chapter 124 and served on the Brookfield Housing Authority Board of Directors for several years.
