Mrs. Ruby Mae Shell Brashear of Wendover, KY. was born on November 3, 1917 in Laurel County, KY.., the daughter of the late, Allen B. Shell & Hattie Williams Shell. She passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at her residence at the age of 99 years, 1 month & 25 days with her family by her side. Ruby had been a life-long resident of Leslie County. By occupation she had worked many years as a store clerk at Elam's Dept. Store in Hyden, KY. She was a loving homemaker. Ruby was a member of the Muncy Creek Baptist Church, Hyden, KY. She enjoyed reading, sewing, working in her garden, especially her beautiful flowers which was a joy to her.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her loving & devoted husband, Elmer Brashear who passed away on February 28, 1971, one son, Laverne, son-in-law, John Winston Smith, she leaves the following relatives surviving, one beloved son, Bill Brashear, Wendover, KY., three beloved daughters, Pat Bowling & Clayton, Somerset, KY., Emma Smith, Charleston, S.C. & Edna Pace & Ira Dean, HYden, KY., one sister, Elsie Scent, Ft. Thomas, KY., 5 treasured grandchildren, Bill Bowling & Anissa, Katherine Horton & J.J., Michelle Wilkinson & Mike, Patricia "Patty" Pace & Elizabeth Pace, 4 great-granchildren & one to be born. Also a host of other relatives & friends survive.

Without the excellent loving care her son Bill gave her, she would not have been with us these many years. We wish to thank everyone for their caring thoughts and prayers. We know mother had many friends and family not listed here. We also want to thank the organizations that have cared for mother over the years including, Home Health and the Hospice Organization for their excellent loving care give to mother night and day. Thank you for everything you did for mother. May God Bless each and everyone of you.
