"Memoir Br[other] Martin Cloud. Died August 14, 1880, Salem, N.C.

Martin Cloud was the son of William and Mollie Cloud. He was born in Patrick County, Va. on December 10, 1795. His father served as a captain in the Revolutionary War. The son followed in his father's footsteps in his devotion to public affairs. For more than 40 years, he was an officer of Patrick County and representated [sic] it in the Virginia Legislature during three terms.

After the opening of our mountain mission, Br. Cloud was united with it by the sacrament of Holy Baptism. It was with particular interest and affection our aged brother spoke of the faithful ministry of Br. Jacob Siewers at Mt. Bethel. When, for many years he had been a widower, when the infirmities of age began to gather about him, Br. Cloud removed to his son-in-law, Br. John Wimmer in Salem. Here he resided until his death. As long as he was able, he was a very faithful attendent upon the services of the church and was united with it in 1879. [Home Moravian Church]

During the last six months, he was a confirmed invalid and at times suffered greatly. On August 14th, he was released from his mortal body and entered, we trust, in everlasting rest. He was aged 84 years, 8 months and 4 days."
