Tribune, July 17, 1958, page 15 & 48. Mines Expert Dies at 67 On Air Trip. Obituary: Word was received here Wednesday of the death of Michael Patrick Cloonan, 67, a Colorado mining engineer and for 22 years an employee in Utah Mines and Mills. Mr. Cloonan died Tuesday in Chicago of a heart attack on board a flight from Denver to Washington, D.C., where he was going in behalf of Colorado lead and zinc interests. He was manager of the Fluorspar Corp., of Walden, Colo., where he lived. He began his career carrying mail by pony to the Ontario and Daly West Mines in Park City in 1907. After 1910 he was employed by the Daly Judge Mill in Bingham and the Utah Copper Co. in Magna until 1929, when he moved to Walden.
PRESIDENT of the Colorado Mining Assn. in 1956-57, he also was active in Colorado politics as a Republican. He served as a Jackson County commissioner for nearly 20 years and was named Tuesday as chairman of the finance subcommittee of Colorado's Long Range Highway Planning Committee. Mr. Cloonan was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Knights of Columbus in Salt Lake City and of the Lions Club of Denver.
HE IS SURVIVED by his widow, the former Ethel Bruce whom he married in St. Louis, Mo., in 1920; two daughters, Margaret Lou and Michaela Marie, all of Denver; a brother, John M. Cloonan, and sister, Mrs. Paul R. (Cathryn Cloonan) Clark, both of Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be held
in Denver Saturday.
