Earl E. Alexander, Sr. went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, 24 Dec 2016. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Corley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Lanoue officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Earl was born in Columbia, Mississippi, to the late Ruben and Mattie Alexander. He graduated from Hub High School in Marion County, MS. While traveling on a bus from Mississippi to northern California to check on a job, he met his future wife, Esther. Esther was traveling from Corsicana, Texas, to west Texas to visit family. They sat next to each other on the bus during this part of the trip. Earl and Esther later married on 22 November 1952 in Crescent City, CA. While there Earl and a close friend, Lloyd Staggs built two adjacent houses and lived in them until Earl and Ester moved to Corsicana in 1957. After arriving in Texas they raised four children: Earl Jr, Ladena, Gloria, and John.

Earl went to work for Adam Hats in 1957 as a hat blocker, running steam presses. He retired in 1982 after 25 years. After that he worked with his son-in-law, Neal Baggett in his tree trimming business.

Earl also stayed involved in his children’s lives. He assisted coaching Little League baseball and was later an executive board member of the Band Boosters. You could usually find him working several Friday and Saturday night football games in the concession stands.

He was also an active member of Northside Baptist and Memorial Baptist Church singing at every opportunity in the choirs. He was asked on several occasions to lead music as interim Music Director at both churches. His faith was a key factor in his life. He led his family by example and showed the importance of the church to his family. Later in life he and Esther were active members of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

In 2007 and 2008 Earl suffered a couple of strokes which hindered him from being as active as he had been. After he was unable to physically attend church, he would occasionally watch services through the local cable company.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Esther R. Alexander in 2012; and a daughter, Gloria D. Crawford in 1988.

Surviviors include his daughter, Ladena Baggett and husband, Neal, of Corsicana; sons, Earl Alexander and wife, Nancy, of Corsicana, and John Alexander, of Mesquite, Texas; grandchildren: Shawn Alexander and wife, Megan, of Carrollton, TX, James Alexander and Cassandra Alexander, of Tacoma, WA, Jake Crawford, of Wylie, TX, Neely Baggett, of Corsicana, Austin Alexander, of Mesquite, TX, Ryan Alexander and wife, Breanna, of Corsicana, Alex Alexander, of Mesquite, TX, Katherine Alexander, of Corsicana, and Danny Baggett and wife, Shalin, of Ft Worth, TX; great-grandchildren: Avery and Corbin Alexander, of Corsicana, and Pete Baggett, of Ft Worth; sister, Texie Smith, of MS; other relatives and many friends.
