Vilas A. Thede, age 88, of Abbotsford, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center-Continental Manor in Abbotsford where he resided the past one and a half years. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Burial will be held in Colby Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Voss, Galen Schreiber, Gary Grieser, Tom Streckert, David Syring and Nelson Weaver. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.Vilas was born on January 23, 1928 in the Town of Colby, Clark County, the son of Edmund and Hattie (Winkel) Thede. He attended Dill Creek School in the Town of Colby until the eighth grade. On April 23, 1949, Vilas was united in marriage to Verna Syring at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. They were married for 64 years. Together they farmed in the Town of Colby for 35 years. They retired in 1984 and moved to the City of Abbotsford. Vilas was very active and always on the go, whether it be walking the treadmill or riding his bicycle. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.Vilas is survived by his sisters in law; Arabella Syring and Ellen Syring, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Vilas is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Verna on Feb. 3, 2014, and one brother; Leroy Thede. He is further preceded in death by his sisters in laws; Milda Ramker and Irene Hanne, brothers in law; Rueben Syring and Clarence Syring.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.
