She was converted at the age of seventeen, baptized on May 21, 1910, and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, to which she was faithful until the end.
On July 19, 1914, she was married to Peter L. Baerg, who left her a widow on February 27, 1928, with six small children. On January 5, 1930, she was united in marriage to me, Abraham Duerksen. To this union were born two children.
Mother enjoyed reasonably good health until in latter years when she suffered considerably with arthritis and was confined to a wheelchair for the last two and a half years. She was always cheerful and very hospitable. In the last three months, her health began to fail rapidly. On July 26, 1977, she was moved to the Linden Nursing Home, where she received loving care. On Sunday, August 28, she peacefully fell asleep. Her passing was caused by cancer.
She will always be remembered for her faith and trust in God, also for her many prayers and concerns in behalf of her children and grandchildren, as well as the many straying ones.
She leaves to mourn me, her deeply bereaved husband; four sons, and four daughters: Peter and Anna Baerg of Swalwell; Paul and Olive Baerg of Edberg; Margaret and Bill Toews of Abbotsford, British Columbia; Agnes and Paul Toews of Grand Prairie;Frieda and Ed Chapman, Linden; Arnold and Anne Baerg, and Lydda and Walter Regehr of Linden; and Dave and Dorthy Duerksen of Stettler, Alberta; also sixty-six grandchildren and seventy-one great-grandchildren; also five brothers and eight sisters. She is predeceased in death by her first husband, four grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services were conducted at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on August 31, 1977. Local ministers were in charge. The remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, Linden, Alberta.
