Our cat. An incredible cat! Mom wanted a cat. Her excuse to get one was to get a pet for my little brother. Upon going to pick from a litter of kittens, Mom fell in love with this charcoal gray. My brother, on the other hand, liked a gray tabby. Mom was devastated! As she was about to write the check for John's kitten "Tiger," the little charcoal gray climbed up her leg. She looked so sad. I reminded Mom that my birthday was only 13 days after John's and I wanted the charcoal gray kitten. I was onto her scheme, and could do one better (a great bonding moment).
Of course, since he was "officially" my cat, I got to name him. I named him after my hero Harpo Marx. They tried to change my mind, but eventually adjusted.
Both Harpo and Tiger grew to be large cats. Tiger was kind of the fat "Kliban Cat." Harpo was more of a sleek, muscular leopard.
While sweet and gentle with his human pets, Harpo let other animals know their place. Tiger was his brother & compadre. Several other animals we had were passive and were therefore tolerated.
Most dogs were the enemy. Not to be run from, but to be made to run. Billie a dalmation often found her white snout striped with blood.
