Charles Mitchell “Charlie” Marshall of Union Point, GA, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. He was 89. Mr. Marshall was born on October 17, 1927 in Albany Georgia, the son of the late Sam Hawkins Marshall and Edwina Gardner Davis Marshall. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Forestry and Wildlife at the University of Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Charlie married the former Shirley Dean Gibbs on February 6, 1949 and lived in Albany until 1950. They moved to Athens living there until 1969. For 14 years they lived in Tifton, GA and moved back to Albany for 9 years . In the fall of 1994 they moved to Union Point. Charlie was a Professor for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and a Wildlife Biologist. All of his life he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. He was also great at making knives, woodworking and cooking. Charlie and his wife Shirley were founding members of Grace Fellowship Church where he continued to be an active member until his death.

Survivors include three sons, Sam Marshall and wife Meg of Greensboro, GA, William Mitchell Marshall and wife Marilynne of Tifton, GA and Arthur Gibbs and wife Beth of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Deanna Marshall, Lucy Marshall, Andrew Marshall, Mitch Marshall, Ben Marshall, Emily Gibbs Rollins and Evelyn Gibbs; great grandchildren, Landen Marshall, Carah Marshall, Tylar Marshall, Ella Rollins, Claire Rollins and Annie Rollins; and a number of other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife, Shirley Marshall, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kim Marshall; and two sisters, Alline Marshall and Ann Hicks.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 1971 South Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Long officiating. FISH Grace Group will serve as honorary pallbearers. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Winslette, Donnie Chapman, Mallory Granitz, James Moore, Earl Porche and David Torbert. Graveside Services will be at Riverside Cemetery, 200 Cotton, Albany, GA 31705, Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends at the graveside after the service.
