Dora Ella Nolan, 81, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, December 16, 2016, in Red Oak. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, at the Guedry Cemetery in Batson, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Dora was born December 21, 1934 in Edinburg to Ross and Gladys (Mills) Van Horn. She was a 1953 graduate of Batson High School. From 1959-1989, she was employed as a chief telephone operator for Trinity Valley Telephone Company in Winnie. Dora later transferred to Grandview as a service representative and retired from Alltel in 1993. After her retirement, she was a volunteer librarian for the Hill County Genealogy Society, delivered meals on wheels from 1989-2009, and was a member of DAR.

Dora enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music as well as country and western bluegrass. She also enjoyed researching genealogy. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro and a Sunday school greeter.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Richard Van Horn and Robert Van Horn Sr.; and sister; Betty Lou Barnett.

Survivors included one son and wife of Red Oak; one sister and husband of Plain Dealing, LA; sister-in-law of Corpus Christi; two grandchildren of Waxahachie and of Red Oak; great-grandchild of Waxahachie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
