Lewis DeWeerd, age 92, of Hudsonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 16, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel DeWeerd; his great grandson, Louis Sorrelle; his sisters, Hermina and Harvey VanRhee, Edna DeWeerd; his brother, Purcel and Hilda DeWeerd; his in-laws, Gradus Scholten, Merlin Cook, Jeanette DeWeerd.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine DeWeerd; children and grandchildren, Faith and Lee Paull (Stephen Paull, Renee and Aaron Harvey, Heather and Tom Emperor), Carl and Tami DeWeerd (Derek and Julie DeWeerd, Mallory and Jon Hasseler, Laci and Paul Sorrelle), Rodney DeWeerd (Kristen Hayes, Carrie and Ken VanDam, Katie DeWeerd), Brian and Lori DeWeerd (Brad DeWeerd, Kevin DeWeerd); his 16 great grandchildren; his step-children and step-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Elmer and Anne DeWeerd, Esther Scholten, Henry and Kathy DeWeerd, Arlene Cook, Carol and Ed Curths, Allen and Donna DeWeerd; his sister-in-law, June Geers.

Lewis was a postal carrier for the USPS for 41 years. He was an active member of Zutphen CRC and Cornerstone URC. He loved the outdoors and tending to his garden.

Funeral services for Lewis will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 11:00 A.M. at Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Hudsonville. Interment Zutphen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at VanderLaan Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice or the charity of your choice.
