Joseph Peter Meiners was born March 4, 1882 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio the son and sixth-born child of Herman Heinrich Meiners with his third wife Elizabeth Mary Kreke Meiners. He had eight siblings and nine half-siblings. Joseph married Elizabeth "Bessie" M. (maiden name unknown) Meiners, and they probably had at least one child. In the 1910 census Joseph's wife is shown as having given birth to one child. In the 1940 census Joseph is shown living with his son, George C. Braden, born about 1912. Joseph was a manufacturer and salesman of machinery for the oil industry, and at various times he and his wife lived in Cincinnati, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Omaha, Nebraska; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Kansas City, Missouri; and probably other places.

Joseph died at age 64 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri and is buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, probably near his wife who probably pre-deceased him.
