John Henry Meiners was born February 2, 1870, Ground Hog Day, in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio the son and first-born child of Herman Heinrich Meiners with his third wife Elizabeth Mary Kreke Meiners. He had eight siblings and nine half-siblings. John was a clerk at the Cosmopolitan Bank and Trust Company at Fifth and Walnut in downtown Cincinnati. He married Mary Stella Schmidter Meiners in 1893 in Cincinnati, and they had ten children: Xavier Francis Meiners, Janet (Jennet) Meiners, William Henry Meiners, Helen Elizabeth Meiners Hoelker, John F. Meiners, Mary Stella Meiners Mattes, Ralph B. Meiners, Robert L. Meiners, Margaret Mary Meiners Puthoff, and Mary Meiners.

John died at age 59 on December 14, 1929 in Cincinnati and is buried in Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery in Saint Bernard, Hamilton County, Ohio, near his wife.
