The funeral service for Dean “Porky” Borge, 67, Mellette, SD, will be 10:30am, Monday, December 12, 2016, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Dean died Tuesday, December 6, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

Visitation is 3:00-6:00pm, Sunday, December 11, with a prayer service at 6:00pm at the funeral home.

Dean Noel “Porky” Borge was born on February 8, 1949 to Harold and Evelyn (Dunker) Borge in Aberdeen, SD. He grew up on the family farm near Brentford, SD and attended school in Brentford. At the age of 9, he was shot in the stomach while playing. He played basketball in high school, and graduated from Brentford High School in 1967.

On January 16, 1971, Dean married Deborah Neuhardt at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church near Bath, SD. Dean continued to work on the family farm until selling it in 1990. In 1995, Dean moved to Brentford and managed the South Dakota Wheat Growers terminal there. He later moved to Mellette and worked at South Dakota Wheat Growers until retiring in 2011.

Dean took care of the ball field in Mellette with some of his friends. He liked to visit with friends, and they could often be found hanging out in his garage. He enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren and Texas Hold’em with his children and friends. Dean loved his grandchildren and attended their school activities whenever he could. He had a golf cart for his grandchildren to ride around in. He also loved to bake chocolate cookies with his grandchildren when they came over.

Grateful for having shared Dean’s life are his children: Tod (Sheila) Borge, Aberdeen, Thomas (Leslie) Borge, Mellette, and Nicole (Chris) Kassube, Bath, SD; eleven grandchildren: O’Ryan Borge, Jerrick Borge, Shaleah Borge, Taden Borge, DeAndre Borge, Dominick Borge, Skylar Borge, Taylor Loken, Kaitlyn Kassube, Kylie Kassube and Hunter Kassube; and his siblings: Phyllis (Francis) Halvorson, Lewis Borge and Ralph (Jan) Borge, all of Aberdeen.

Preceding Dean in death are his parents: Harold and Evelyn and his brothers: LaVerne Borge and Thomas Borge.
