STROKE TAKES LIFE OF ‘SIM’ ZANE - Death came in a Reno, Nevada hospital late Tuesday afternoon to Simeon L “Sim” Zane, 68-year-old native Eurekan as the result of a massive stroke suffered a week previous. Zane, son of the late Catherine Lessard Zane, school administrator for whom Zane Junior High School here is named, was a retired attorney and realtor and operated the Zane Ranch at Elk River.

A graduate of Stanford University, he served for nearly 40 years in the legal department of Standard Oil of California and during the war years in a similar capacity wit the U.S. Corps of Engineers. On his return here he took up the real estate business with his then-retired mother in Zane Realty, operating chiefly in rural lands throughout the County.

A member of the Ingomar Club and St. Bernard’s Parish, he had during the last period of his life been a resident of the Eureka Inn. Zane died in Washoe Medical Center while on a visit to his daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Suzanne) VenderWeide of Reno and her family,. Rosary will be recited Friday at 8 pm in Pierce Mortuary Chapel here, with brief funeral services there at 9:45 am Saturday, followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10 am in St. Bernard’s Church.
