Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, April 11, 1922, pg 5 col 6: Child Drowns In Irrigation Water Way. Baby Wanders Away From Home and Body is Found Hour Later. Orland, April 10. – The two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Iverson was drowned in one of the irrigation ditches yesterday morning shortly after ten o’clock. The little youngster wandered away from his home while his mother was busy and evidently made straight for the irrigation canal north of the home, just east of Orland.
He had been gone but a few minutes when he was missed by his mother and a search started for the boy. A half hour later the body of the little youngster was found by Charles Sanford, ditch rider, floating in the ditch nearly a mile away from the home.
The passing of the little fellow who was the picture of health, has proven a shock to the entire community, and the sympathy of all their friends and neighbors in Orland goes out to the bereaved parents.
