Husband of Helen Ann Lillian Thomson and Librarian Barbara Hutchinson .Angus McGill Mowat, B.A., M.A., (November 19, 1892 - September 21, 1977) was a Canadian librarian who initiated and contributed to the continuing improvement of the library systems in Saskatoon and Ontario, from the 1920s through to the 1960s. Their only child was writer Farley McGill Mowat who died in 2014.


Angus is buried here at Sophiasburgh Cemetery. He is also commemorated on his parent's headstone at St Georges Cemetery in Trenton, Ontario. MEMORIAL ID 148815882


Angus McGill MOWAT

Of Picton RR 2 died after a long illness. Born in 1892 in Trenton, he attended Queen's University, then joined the Canadian Army, serving with the 4th Battallion. He was wounded at Vimy Ridge in 1917. He became a librarian, working in Belleville & Trenton & eventually become Director of the Public Library Service of Ontario. He wrote 2 books; Then I'll Look Up, 1938, & Carrying Place, 1944. He was a member of the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment & was a Staff Officer during WWII. He had a life-long love of boats & sailing & from 1968 to 1971, painstakingly restored the wreck of a boat he had seen under construction in Trenton as a boy. He was given a Scottish Military burial at Northport on Friday accompanied by a piper. The service was conducted by Col. Angus Duffy, former Commanding Officer of the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment. Mr. Mowat was a gentle man & an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife Barbara, & 3 children, John, Mary & Farley.
