Marjorie “Elaine” Hartman, age 93, of McCook, NE passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at Community Hospital in McCook.
Elaine was born March 23, 1923 to parents Louie E and Gladys Mae (Bailey) Sonday. She was one of six children growing up in Brewster, Kansas. The family later moved to Lebanon, Nebraska where Elaine graduated from Lebanon High School with the class of 1940.
On April 12, 1941, Elaine married Donald Evertt DeMoss in Oberlin, Kansas. The couple was blessed with five children.
On June 28, 1973, Elaine married Leo George Hartman in McCook. Together, Leo and Elaine owned and operated the Danbury-Lebanon Telephone Exchange as well as the Haigler Telephone Exchange before retiring in 2002.
Throughout her life, Elaine enjoyed bowling and spending time with her grandchildren. Leo always grew a large garden and Elaine enjoyed canning all of the produce. Elaine and Leo were married for 38 years before Leo’s passing in 2011.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Gladys Sonday; husband, Donald DeMoss in 1971 and husband, Leo Hartman in 2011; daughter, Deanna DeMoss; son Darold DeMoss; step son Duane Hartman; son in law, Jack Daily; two grandsons, Bobby Bruening and Donald DeMoss; two sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by her three daughters, Joanna (Ed) Heronema of Hays, Kansas, Debra Daily of Lincoln, NE, and Brenda (Arleigh) Kincaid of McCook; step daughters Karen (Clyde) Hunter of Scottsbluff, NE and Rhonda (Johnny) Marley of Temple, Texas; six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members
