John W Bowles maybe mentioned in his half brother Anderson Bowles family for the 1840 census, there is a spot that has a 1 for the years of 10 - 15 that may be him. John Wesley was alive by this 1850 census, living here with his brother Caleb and at the home of their half brother Anderson. After this time we lose John and no trace of him in the 1860 census, in fact, no John Bowles is mentioned for those dates of birth between 1826 - 1831. We do see a John W Bowles that entered into the Union Army for the state of Missouri's 32 Infantry A-C Company
