GEORGE SCHUEMAN, 85, of Omaha (& formerly of Oakland), died Sunday, Nov. 27th. Funeral services for GEORGE SCHUEMAN are pending at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland.

Gerald “George” Leroy Schueman, was born on January 20, 1931, to Rudolph and Grace (Garrison) Schueman, in Avoca, Iowa. He died, on November 27, 2016, at his home in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 7 days.

George attended school in Avoca and started driving a truck at a young age. He was united in marriage to Donna Rae Danker on June 2, 1951. To this union, three children were born; Rodney, Mark and Joanie. He served his country in the Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Avoca. He purchased Cleaveland Trucking and began hauling milk for the Avoca Dairy. George hauled for American Beef in addition to hauling corn before he founded Schueman Trucking in the 80”s. On June 10, 2004, Donna Rae died. George continued to live in the Oakland area. On December 1, 2014, George and Cheryl Crawford were united into marriage. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska and continued to live there until the time of his death.

George served as Mayor of Oakland and was instrumental in building the Oakland Pool, the water plant, Oakland Manor, Schueman Park, and the Senior Center. He also worked to get asphalt on the streets of Oakland and was one of the founders of “JACS”. He enjoyed traveling, spending time at the lake house, the Denver Broncos, going to Las Vegas, and stopping for ice cream.

George is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Donna Rae; his daughter, Joanie K. Schueman Urbana; his brothers: Frank, Jim, Walter, John, Den, ; and sister Bernice.

George is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his sons: Rodney C. Schueman and wife Teresa (Dreyer), and Mark A. Schueman and Leslie (Hudman); five grandchildren: Cody C. Schueman and wife Lauren, Colby Jacob Schueman and wife Taylor, Niki Kay Schueman Ford and her husband Kevin, Stacie May Schueman, and Jon G. Urbana and wife April; seven great grandchildren: Lacie, Tanner, Kenna Rae, Noah, London, Caelen and Declan. He is also survived by three sisters: Margaret Maassen, Kay Havick and husband Bruce, and Peggy Cvejdlik and husband Ken; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Oakland United Methodist Church at 10:30 AM. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home of Oakland, Iowa is assisting family with arrangements.
