Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church for Bro. Waite Hoyt Heflin 82, of Gadsden, who went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 21, 2016. Rev. Greg Bledsoe will be officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Baptist Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory will be directing the service.
Bro. Heflin was born August 20, 1934.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Annie Sue Heflin; brother, Thomas Judson Heflin; sister, Doris Nance; and beloved grandson, Michael "Mikey" Heflin.
He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1952-1967. He retired from Millbrook Bread Company after 30 years of service. During his retirement, he worked at the Gadsden YMCA and loved to fish with his grandkids.
Dad loved the Lord and served him well. He was a deacon at several churches and pastor at Grace Baptist Church. He loved running the Bus Ministry at Fairview Baptist, Trinity Baptist and Grace Baptist for over 40 years. He also loved the Children's Ministries doing puppet shows.
Dad, you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 62 years Amelia Sitz Heflin; sons, Van (Barbara) Heflin and Michael (Susan) Heflin; grandsons, Jesse (Rachel) Heflin and Andy (Alyssa) Heflin; granddaughter, Tracy Heflin and great-granddaughter Emma Grace Kindsfather.
Pallbearers will be Andy Heflin, Jesse Heflin, David Heflin, Greg Vinyard and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.
