Hardy Sanders Barry was born 1811 Jones County, North Carolina to Mark Barry and Mary Cassandra Howard. The family moved from Jones County, North Carolina to Lebanon, Wilson County, Tennessee between 1811 and 1815. His father Mark dies August 1815 Wilson County, Tennessee.

In 1830 Wilson County, Tennesse United States Census living with stepfather, Jasper Ashworth.

Enlisted at Lebanon, TN June 13, 1836 as a private in Capt. Jesse J . Finley's Company, 2nd Tenn Mtd Inf; served in the Florida Semiole War, and was mustered out at New Orleans, Jan 14, 1837.

Hardy married Violet Caroline Wilson before 1840 possibly in Henderson County, Tennessee. He was listed as Head of household in the 1840 USC in Henderson County, Tennessee with a total of 8 people and occupation in Business of Manufacturing & Trading. By April 20, 1848 he is located in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas as information found in the dead book there.
In the 1850 Red River County, Texas United States Federal Census we find him listed as Hardy Barry Age: 32 Birth Year: about 1818 Birthplace: Tennessee, occupation as farmer with wife, Violet Barry age 37 birth in Tenn., with his children with ages as follows :Jane Barry 19 Nancy Barry 14 Mary Barry 10 Laura Barry 5 John Barry 6 Fanny Barry 3 Harriet Barry 0 Nancy Barton 26 Anne Barton 6 Howard Barton 4.

H. S. is still located in Red River County, Texas by the 1860 in the USC on page 101; Household #575-575. It lists H. S. Barry Department with occupation of Sheriff deputy, age 49 yrs. and born Tenn., value $3000 in real estate, $3000 in bank, wife Violet C. age 48 yrs. and born in Tenn. With children as follows: Mary 17 yrs. Tenn. John 16 yrs. Tenn. Laura 14 yrs. Tenn. Fanny H. 12 yrs. Tenn. Ada 9 yrs., Tx. David 6 yrs. Tx. Thomas 4 yrs, Tx.
Per the Texas CSA Muster Role, H. S. enlisted July 13, 1861 as a private under Capt. George B. Breun, in Clarksville, Texas Mounted Rifle, 8th brigade. He became cavalry wagon master in the Sims Regiment, 4th cavalry, Company F and S of the 9th regiment.
I have not found a discharge for H. S. Barry.

He died 02 Jan. 1868 in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas and is buried there along side his wife.
