Magnolia -- Mrs. Alice Carter Mathis, age 63, of Magnolia, died Saturday night, May 14, at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, from the First Freewill Baptist Church of Warsaw, conducted by Rev. Grady DAvis. Burial will follow in Devotional Gardens near Warsaw.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Clint (Jean) Blanton of Willard, Mrs. Graham (Elizabeth) Brinkley of Beulaville, Ms. Betty Dixon of Kinston, and Miss Nancy Mathis of Magnolia; three sons, Ivey Lee Mathis, KennethWayne Mathis and Tommy Mathis, all of Magnolia; her mother, Mrs. Annie Carter of Wilmington; four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Williams and Mrs. Noreen Freeman, both of Wilmington, Mrs. Mandy Ellis of Clayton and Mrs. Sally Boone of Stem; four brothers, Ernest Carter of Raleigh, Grham Carter of Camden, S.C., Walter Carter of Wilmington and John Calvin Carter of Kinston; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of Mrs. Annie Beasley Carter and the late Frank Carter, She was the widow of Ivey Johnson Mathis and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Warsaw.
Casketbearers will be Chris Drew, Keith Williams, Malcolm Johnson, Mike Brinkley, Marty Royal and Joe Casteen.
The family will receive at the Padgett Funeral Home from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday and will be at their residence in Magnolia other times.
