She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Evelyn Shumate Anderson; and a brother, William Dallas Shumate Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold W. Jensen of Charlottesville; and daughter, Kate Jensen of Phoenixville, Pa.
Marianne attended Fairfax Hall, Waynesboro High School, Westhampton College, and Mary Baldwin College. She taught elementary school for five years in several Virginia systems.Marianne was a long-time member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Charlottesville. Through the church sponsored chapter of Christmas International House, the Jensens worked with tireless love over the years to provide American hospitality and Christian care to international students unable to go home for the holidays.To international students, the Jensen home was always open for visits, and even for long term stays. Through them, and numerous international trips, the Jensens fulfilled their passion to experience cultures of the world.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 100 Alderman Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903. A reception will follow the service.Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
