Belma Wimberly Brude passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Katie B. Hospice in Winston-Salem, NC. Funeral services were held at Grand View Funeral Home in Deer Park, TX on May 22 with Pastor Mike Gates officiating.
Belma was born in Shelby County, Texas on June 28, 1913 and was approaching age 100 at the time of her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Bessie Chandler, by R.B. Wimberly, father of her son, and by second husband Gus Brude.
Several years after her marriage to R.B., the couple moved from Center, Texas to Houston and then to Dear Park in the early 1950's where the family was active in the First Baptist Church. Belma retired in 1979 after many years with the Deer Park Independent School District. She thoroughly enjoyed the many friends from the church, school and community. After retirement she moved to Cold Spring, Texas. For the past 14 months, she has been living with her nephew and his wife, Pastor Mike and Rhonda Gates in Winston-Salem, NC.
Belma is survived by her son Bob Wimberly and his wife Miriam of Hideaway, Texas, grandson Dr. Lane Wimberly and his wife Jenna, their daughters Betty and Mary Jane of Dallas. Belma was the oldest of nine children. All of them have been very close and have spent as much time together as possible. Surviving brothers and sister are Wyndel Chandler of Houston, Charles Chandler and wife Nelda of Kingsport, Tennessee, Pat Martin of Buna, Texas and Robert Chandler and his wife Carol of Kirbyville, Texas.
