Peter Thurston was a son of David and Rachel (Chapin) Thurston of Mexico, N.Y. He was born in New Lisbon, N.Y. on January 31, 1795 and married January, 1821 to Anna Kelsey who was also born in New Lisbon, August 28, 1799. She died at Grand Marsh, Wisconsin on January 5, 1856.
