George's death and burial information remains unknown, he last found in the census of 1910 in Morgan County, where he most certainly died, and his death only known to have been after 1910 census and before 1920, when the census record for his wife notes her as then a widow and George no longer listed, of course.

George Washington Garner was the second son of Elija and Rebecca Jones Garner, born in likely Talladega County, AL, prior to the family's move to Bluff Springs, then in Tallapoosa County, AL, where they are found in 1860. After his father's death in the Civil War and his mother's second marriage, he remained with his siblings, mother, and new stepfather until adulthood, the date of his going out on his own unknown.

He married late, on Nov 21, 1897, in Jefferson County, AL to Anna Belle "Annie" Prayton, born in Aug of 1874 in AL, his age then forty-four, and she only twenty-three. There is no record of him having been married previously. By 1900, they are living in Moulton, Lawrence, AL, and farming.

George and Annie had five known offspring:

Nettie Bell Garner Bennett, 1899-1969
Betty Irene Garner Bennett, 1900-1984
Thomas Byrd Garner, 1904-1931
Samuel Grady "Lewis" Garner, 1908-1933
George Kyle Garner, 1913-1975

The last record found for George is the 1910 federal census where he is noted in Morgan County, AL, age fifty-seven, and where his now twice widowed mother, Rebecca, is living with him and his family. Following that census, he disappears from all records, and his wife, Annie, is noted as a widow in the 1920 census of Oak Ridge, Morgan County, AL. His mother had by then moved in with her younger son, Andrew, and would pass later that same year.

Death and burial records are found for his mother and his three siblings, all but James Sturgeon Garner, buried in Morgan County, AL. It is assumed then that George also died and was buried in Morgan County, but no records of any kind have been found to date. The date then can also only be determined to have been between 1910 and 1920.

His widow, Annie, married a second time after 1920, to widower James I Lott, 1858-1944, and outlived him as well, passing in Hartselle, Morgan County, AL, on Dec 19, 1952 at age seventy-eight. She is not buried with her second husband and is more likely to have been buried with George, but no burial records are found for her either. James Lott's memorial no. is 91666177, and linked only to his first wife.
