Raymond Leon Buchanan, 72 of Sapulpa, Oklahoma passed away on October 30, 2016 in Owasso, Oklahoma. He was born on November 28, 1943 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma to Winnie and Jake Buchanan.

Ray was a proud graduate of Sapulpa High School (Class of '63), then continued on to college at Tonkawa State College, and Central State College. After serving in the US Army as a Sergeant, Ray graduated from college, worked at Getty Oil for a number of years, and then went to work for the Sapulpa School System until his retirement.

Ray was an outstanding athlete from high school on through adulthood, where he continued to play ball, coach and ump in various sporting leagues around Sapulpa. Ray is still the only Sapulpa Chieftain athlete to have lettered in four sports two years in a row; football, baseball, track and basketball. He was well known for his speed when playing any kind of ball, earning him the nickname "Racer."

While Ray will be remembered by countless friends and family for his steadfast friendship easy-going nature, and his love for sports, he will be remembered by his kids and grandkids simply as "Papa."

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law; his three grandkids; his brother; his four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Mom, Winnie Buchanan, his father Jake Buchanan; sisters Betty Payne, Naomi Hulsey, Shirley Cloudus, Helen Degraffenreed and Bonnie Bristow; brothers Danny Buchanan, Jay Buchanan and Thomas Buchanan.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Green Hill Memorial Gardens following the service. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2-8 pm Tuesday, November 1, 2016.
