Florence M. Hayden passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Simpson Center, Friendship Haven. A funeral service honoring Florence’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Kitterman officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Humboldt. Arrangements have been entrusted with the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Florence May Hasty was born on April 14, 1927 on the family farm near Gowrie, Iowa, to Ralph and Eva (Gunion) Hasty. She attended many different country schools throughout the area. She graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1945. On January 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Bernard Hayden in Washta, Iowa. They moved to Ames, Iowa, for 18 months for Bernard’s education and returned to Fort Dodge. Florence proudly worked for ASC U.S. Department of Agriculture for 33 years. She spent the next 35 years spending quality time with the love of her life enjoying retirement and traveling as they were owners of Bernel Colleges of Cosmetology.
Florence enjoyed being outdoors, and could be found gardening or playing with the family’s pets. She will always be remembered as a warm hostess and for regularly bringing all of the family together.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard Hayden as well as 12 nieces and nephews.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Eva Hasty, siblings Emma Youngerman, Martha Nelson Rose, Evelyn (Jeri) Schwering, Verne Hasty, and Dale Hasty, in-laws Al and Edna Hayden as well as sister-in laws Marjorie McCabe and Pauline Sullivan.
