Evelyn "Jeri" Schwering, 76, Mesa, Ariz., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at her residence.

Born Sept. 12, 1923, in Dana, Ariz., she was the daughter of Ralph and Eva (Gunion) Hasty. She married Paul Schwering in 1946 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and he preceded her in death in 1995.

She was educated in Lanyon, Callender, and Gowrie schools. She was employed by Marso-Rodenborn Manufacturing, making military apparel during World War II. She and her husband also farmed together until retiring in 1984.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Duncombe, Iowa, where she was a member of the altar society.

Survivors include one son, Bruce Schwering of Nevada; one daughter, Linda Sackfield of Spokane, Wash.; one brother, Dale Hasty of Mesa; and four grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Verne.

Funeral services are at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge and 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Duncombe, the Rev. Timothy Boekelman officiating.

Burial is in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with a vigil for the deceased at 7 p.m.
