George Ellis 1848-1931
George Ellis, son of Rev. Elias and Nancy Ellis, was born March 16, 1848 in Harrison County, Indiana. He moved to Iowa with his parents at the age of ten years, and at the age of fifteen enlisted June 5, 1863, and served with company L. First Regiment and Company A, Consolidated Detachment, 1st. Regiment State Militia Calvary Volunteers, and fought for over two years for his country.
While still in service, he was united in marriage to Miss Amy Elizabeth Parker, Nov. 20, 1863 to which union ten children were born, five to whom are still living. His wife passed away Sept 28, 1897.
In the year of 1904 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma McCollister of Jerome, Iowa. In 1919 they moved to Portland, Oregon, where they have since resided.
Besides his widow, he was survived by Mrs. Ethel Adams, Centerville Iowa, Mrs. Jessie Marcum, Blue Lick, Missouri Clarence of Austin, MN., Jermie of Marshall, Missouri, and Theodore of Marshall, Missouri and three step daughters.
