Iowa Recorder, Greene, Butler Co., Iowa, Wednesday AM, 10 January 1906. Sudden Death. Mrs. John Brisco Dies Very Suddenly with Heart Disease. Mrs. Adeline Head Brisco passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Smith, Thursday morning January 4th, 1906, aged 79 years. Mrs. Brisco was one of the pioneers of Iowa and she and her husband had endured the hardships and privations of the early days of Iowa history. Fourteen children were born to them and nine are living today. For the past two years she had made her home in this city with Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Smith. She had lived with her husband at Goodell, Iowa, until his decease two years ago. Up to the time of her death, Mrs. Brisco was in apparently good health. The end was sudden. She attended church service on the Sunday previous to her death, and in the class meeting her voice of praise and satisfaction in the religion of her Savior inspired all her listeners. She was a Christian in the fullest sense of the word, and her confidence and trust in God was implicit. While her death has brought sorrow to her children and friends here, is it unreasonable to think that it brought untold joy to those of the household who had preceded her to that home not made with hands? In our imagination we can see them waiting at the beautiful gate of welcome her coming. We sympathize with the children and friends and neighbors who mourn her departure, but we can only remind them that she is not dead, she is only asleep---resting after a long and well spent life. Brief funeral services were held at the Smith home Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, her pastor, Rev. Soper, officiating and paying a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. He spoke the words of consolation to the living from Thesa. 1:13-18. Interment was made on the family lot in the cemetery at Pleasant Grove by the side of those of her devoted husband who had crossed the Dark River before her.
