David Wright’s parents are West Lee Wright [1800-1876]; son of William and Martha [aka Patsy] Morgan. Nancy Wright (her maiden name, also) [1809-1890] was the daughter of James Wright [1781-1873] and Elizabeth Sears [1772-1834] –making West Lee and Nancy 2nd cousins. David was the 3rd of 15 children born to West Lee and Nancy.

David was first married on 24th of October, 1850 [ abt 2 mos after the census; he was abt 21 yrs of age] to Miss Abigail Louden. She died July 2, 1853.

David remarried on 24 October 1855 to Miss Mary Jane Casebolt. According to the 1900 census [below],they had 8 children, with 6 still living at the time. Daughters, Indiana, and Ella, died in early childhood and buried in the Wright Cemetery, Medora, Jackson, Indiana – along with most of their family.

Rev. David Wright, father of these children, had been minister of the gospel for more than 40 years and had accomplished much for the uplifting of his fellow men and advancing the cause of the divine Master, he had ever loved to discuss with others the Bible and its teachings, and the “hook of hooks” [i] has been nearest and dearest to him of all writings.

He is a man of optimistic temperament and finds his Christian faith a source of inspiration and gladness, while his generosity and kindliness are proverbial. He would divide his last meal with one in affliction, never turning a beggar from his door and always speeding the suppliant for assistance with the farewell, “God bless you.” He is a staunch Republican in politics and is well fortified in his convictions in regard to matters of public import.

A kind and loving husband and father and a man of exalted character, he has ever retained a strong-hold upon the affectionate regard of all who know him, and the same is true of his devoted wife, whose beautiful attributes of character have shed a gracious light upon all who have come within the sphere of her influence, she likewise being a zealous member of the Baptist Church.
