On 5 November 1854, at the age of about 15, Mary Ann married Andrew A McKimmey [1831 – 1862], by whom she had 3 children - Viola, Adelia, and Alexander – as shown in the 1860 United States Federal Census for Medora, Jackson County, Indiana – page 2 of 7
Shortly after the Civil War started, Andrew joined Co. E, 6th Regiment, Indiana Cavalry as a private. Records indicate that he died 30 August 1862 during the battle at Richmond, Madison Co., Kentucky. Under the leadership of Union commander, MG William Nelson, the Union soldiers suffered heavy casualties of about 4,900 vs the Confederate loss abt 750 [http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/richmond.html]
Andrew's remains were returned home and interred in the Wright Cemetery in Jackson County, Indiana where his in-laws were later buried and later his beloved wife.
Mary Ann remarried, but not until May 18, 1866 Jackson County Indiana, to Jessie E Davis. [Jackson Co., IN Marriages 1816-1920], Bk E; pg 222] Records indicate that he may have been a widower, as there are older Davis children in the 1880 census. No record has been found to indicate that Mary Ann and Jessie had other children.
The next record for Mary Ann found is her obituary as follows:
