Stella B. Aubuchon died in the home she owned for 50 years on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 surrounded by the love of family. She was 86 and will be missed dearly. Stella joins her husband of more than 60 years, Norman Aubuchon, in heaven, and her oldest daughter Catherine who died of leukemia as a toddler. Stella was featured in The Denver Post in 1956 for taking Cathy to Lourdes, France in search of a miracle. She is survived by her three daughters Michelle (Jeff) Schrader of Kansas City, Suzanne (John) Ruetschle of Durango and Renee (Tom) Adams of Greeley; four grandchildren Danielle (Travis) Kiser, Andrew (Megan) Schrader, Adam Ruetschle and Shannon Ruetschle; and one great-grandson Atticus. Born in Nashville, Ill. to Walter and Josephine Jankowski, she grew up playing pickup basketball with the boys. She cherished her older sisters Dorothy and Jackie and is survived by her younger brother Walter, who still lives in Nashville. After meeting her husband in St. Louis at the federal finance center where they both worked, the newlyweds moved to Denver in 1951 to work in the new Air Force Accounting and Finance Center. Stella was among the very first computer programmers. She retired in 1985. She was the only woman on her husband's fast-pitch softball team and played well into her 40s. She liked to golf, bowl, beat her grandkids at pinochle, and drink Carlo Rossi out of a Broncos glass. Even holidays were competitive for Stella who relished a hybrid game between white elephant and Yahtzee. She infamously wrapped wallet sized photos of herself to trick grandkids looking for cash. Stella was generous. If she won one of her many sports pools, she'd buy the whole bar a round and enjoyed a trip to Black Hawk. Her daughters affectionately called her CNN because she was a constant source of news and gossip keeping family connected with letters, phone calls and emails. Her daughters will cherish their long phone calls on weekend mornings. Stella meticulously journaled her life. She was beautiful and full of love and life.
