He came with his family as a child to Miami County, Ohio. He married on January 27, 1825, Hamilton County, Ohio, to Sarah Rogers
Sarah died a few weeks after giving birth to Christena, and Moses remarried to Ann S. Perry on February 8, 1842, in Marion County, Indiana.
In the 1850's he moved his family to Du Quoin, Illinois, where he and his brother, Christopher Winters, were among the founders of the First Baptist Church, which now stands on the site of the Moses Winters home.
