Robert Wilson Marlar was born on October 9, 1879 to John and Leatha Foster French Marlar. His WWI Draft Registration Card reports that he had black hair and blue eyes and was of a medium build. He first married Una Samantha Snider on May 30, 1901, and they were the parents of Tursa, John, Howard, and Kathryn. Una passed away in 1917, and Robert remarried to Mary Matilda Grisham on October 13, 1918, in Independence County, Arkansas. Their children were James and Charles.

About the year 1912 Robert was ordained a minister in the Methodist Protestant Church, and in the early 1920s he was assigned to pastor congregations in northeast Arkansas. In 1924, he was assigned to the Methodist Church in Downey, Iowa and lived there until late 1926 when he was offered a charge in Ravenwood, Missouri.

Like his brother James and oldest sister Georgia, Robert was affected by Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, an inherited bleeding disorder. He passed away in May of 1927 at the age of 47, reportedly in Carthage, Missouri, and was buried in Cave City, Arkansas, at the Hickory Valley Cemetery across the road from the Hickory Valley Methodist Church, one of his former pastorates.
