He was married to D. Abalean (Abellina) Steward April 22, 1855 in San Joaquin Co., California. He may have a son named Clyde and a daughter named Jenny Ann. Whereabouts of his wife and children is not presently known.

Death Notice from Clearlake Press Newspaper, Lake County, California, September 6, 1900 edition:

"Wm. Gard Died here Saturday evening and was buried Sunday afternoon. He was 64 years old and was a pioneer of Kelseyville."

In the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Kelseyville there is a plot (Gard Family Plot) with 7 graves marked by headstones without inscriptions. The headstones are rectangular in shape, rough in finish and were carefully placed with the bases buried to keep them upright. A Stone, in this manner, was also placed on each corner of the plot. This is the only burial plot within the cemetery marked in this manner. The cemetery records only indicate that the plot was purchased by Levi Gard (Mahala's Son), date unknown. No records of who is buried there appear to exist. I am fairly confident that the graves are of Levi's daughter Nellie Lucinda Gard, Mahala, her single sons John, William and Jacob, and her spinster daughters Sarah and Rachel.
