On Sunday morning friends and relatives here received startling and painful news of the death of Hugh H. Martin in the Todd sanitarium at Cambridge Springs at 10 am Sunday, October 4. He left Franklin for Cambridge Springs about 5 weeks ago, and since has been in failing health. He was in his 53rd years, and was ne of Franklin's best known men. He was a son of Thomas H. Martin, born in Franklin in 1951.
He gained a common school education here and graduated in several schools of pharmacy, and during his active business life was one of the foremost druggists of Franklin. For many years he and Major William M. Epley conducted the Martin & Epley pharmacy, Martin being the active business head of the store. During the years, he won the confidence and respect of the whole city and county through his honest and straightforward dealing. He was a friend of the poor, the needy, the sick and the afflicted.
Surviving are his aged mother, Mrs. Thomas H. Martin; his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Craft Martin; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer D. Smith of Crafton, and Miss Ruth Martin of Franklin; brothers and sisters, Fred P. Martin, Thomas H. Martin, and Mrs. W. F. Myers and W. H. Martin of Bluefields, WV.
The funeral will be Wednesday afternoon.
